This is a great starting point to reference the names of the locations within Hanauma Bay that are commonly used by locals and fish identification guide books. The maps are based upon the Areas and Zones described by John Hoover in his comprehensive book Hanauma Bay: A Marine Guide to Hawaii's Most Popular Nature Preserve.

This interactive map contains data points for 28 cauliflower coral (Pocillopora meandrina) and lobe coral (Porites lobata) colonies living in the inner reef of Hanauma Bay. These colonies have been observed and documented individually over time. The the images, numbering in the thousands, were contributed to the Digital Coral Ark by Anke Roberts and Larry Winnik.

This map is intended as a living, evolving repository of marine biodiversity in Hanauma Bay, O‘ahu. It builds on the Digital Coral Ark’s mission to compile longitudinal photographic and video documentation of coral reefs via community contribution and archival research.
