Process Flow for Binder Sleeves: To be cross-referenced with the John Hoover Hanauma Bay Book + Contact Sheets + Images in Binder Sleeves

1) Start with Sleeves 01 and 02

2) Cross-reference the image with the corresponding slide mount in the Contact Sheet - find the following information:

• Date - 4-digit year

• Location - if mentioned

3) Cross-check the location with the corresponding entry in the John Hoover Book:

• If there is an inconsistency between the book and the slide, use the information in the book 

4) After the image has been properly cross-referenced, rename files with this structure: COMMONNAME_YEAR_LOCATION

• If the photo is in Hanauma Bay, the location code is _HAN

• If the photo was NOT taken in Hanauma Bay, the location code is _LLL

Example 1: Copy of Hoover_John - SLEEVE03 img20231031_15285752

Common Name: Convict Tang
Date: Jan. 1994
Location: Hanauma Bay - no location identified in book but will use what is on the slide
Tagged File Structure: Convict Tang_1994_HAN

Example 2: Copy of Hoover_John - SLEEVE02 img20231031_14232798 INDONESIAN

Common Name: Spotted BoxFish
Date: 8/8/91
Location: Yokohama - the book says Indonesia
Tagged File Structure: Spotted Boxfish_1991_LLL

5) Move file OR upload it to the map:

If the image IS NOT from Hanauma Bay, move it to the folder titled: JOHN HOOVER | SLIDES - BINDER SLEEVES 00-14_WORKING_NON HAN FILES

If the image IS from Hanauma Bay, upload to the map using the appropriate GPS coordinates (cut-and-paste from Survey Form)

• Upload only files under 10MB - if it is over 10MB, make a note for Christine to compress.

• If there are two photos of the same species (e.g., finger coral used as a “pretty picture” and finger coral used for species identification in the book, ONLY upload the “species identification” photo to the map, but rename and keep both in the folder for Beagle).

• Very rarely, John uses an image given to him by someone else. Please make a note of this, or any ambiguities or questions in the optional notes section of the survey.
